CSA Basket #6

I am very late posting this,
so I hope I can remember everything!
*cucumbers
*dill
*swiss chard
*kale
*green beans
*squash
*green onions
*beets

Ms. Peggy has been missing for a few weeks,
and she mentioned something on her blog, The Female Farmer,
about singing at Bonnaroo.
What?
So, I had to ask,
and, yeah, she's singing with her mother...
who just so happens to be,
the one and only,
Loretta Lynn.
Seriously?
I didn't know Ms. Peggy was famous...
which means my vegetables are famous...
in fact, it's kinda like I'm eating dinner with Loretta Lynn...
who just so happens to be my new best friend.

Here's pretty Ms. Peggy with her twin sister, Patsy.

CSA Basket # 5

*carrots
*kohlrabi
(I have no idea, but I'll find out and let you know.)
*swiss chard
*kale
*mustard and turnip greens
*lettuce
*onions
*snap peas
*beet greens

We got to the market
just in time to snag the last loaf of
homemade buttermilk bread.

And, we couldn't resist the
homemade pasta and potato salads,
strawberry lemonade fruit roll-ups,
a strawberry lemon cream bread tart,
a small loaf of carrot spinach bread,
and the oatmeal raisin cookies
didn't make it into the picture.

Madison Creek Farm
is our favorite place to be on Saturday mornings.

CSA Basket #4

Here's our latest share:
romaine
red curly lettuce
spinach
braising mix
another kind of lettuce
swiss chard
green onions
snap peas
strawberries

The farm is now open to the public on Saturdays,
and the market is full of fabulous homemade goodies.
I couldn't resist a loaf of home baked bread,
a jar of pickled green tomatoes, and more mint.
(coming soon:  the perfect mojito)

Mrs. Peggy also did a cooking demonstration
with several of the different greens we've been receiving.
My favorite was this recipe for Parmesan & Garlic Kale Chips,
and I couldn't wait to try it when we got home.
I didn't realize we didn't have any kale in our baskets!
Maybe, Mrs. Peggy will let me come over and cut some this week.
Here's the recipe:

We didn't have a pickup last weekend,
but that didn't stop us from visiting the market.
We got there just in time to snatch the last
honey glazed strawberry shortcake!

We also couldn't live without:
lettuce
swiss chard
onions
blueberry muffin
basil
green tomato relish
pickled jalepenos

Thank you, again,
Madison Creek Farm.

CSA Basket #3

Here's our third basketful from
Madison Creek Farm!

*kale
*broccoli
*arugula
*green onions
*radishes
*romaine
*red curly lettuce
*braising mix
*swiss chard
*strawberries
*pretty flowers

Here's the recipe that I've been using
to cook all the kale we've been getting.

I didn't have the apple cider vinegar,
so I used pineapple juice....
this, for some reason, makes sense to me.
I'm pretty sure I've never eaten kale before, but now, I'm hooked!
It is delicious!

CSA Basket #2

Here's a look at our second basket from Madison Creek Farm.
I started cleaning everything and almost forgot to take a picture!
The bowl of strawberries started out full,
and we did get more than one radish.
It's just impossible not to nibble.

Here's what we got:
*kale
*romaine
*spinach
*arugula
*cilantro
*mint
*radishes
*green onions
*asparagus
*broccoli
*strawberries
*and I'm not sure what these little bunches are -
if you recognize them, please let me know!

Thanks again Madison Creek Farm!

Update:
It's Tatsoi - an Asian mustard green!

madison creek farm

We are so excited to be participating in the CSA program
at Madison Creek Farm.

This weekend,
Peggy (thefemalefarmer) and Mark hosted
the first shareholders gathering of the season.
After a delicious lunch,
we walked around the beautiful farm,
met the other shareholders,
and filled our baskets to overflowing.

We met the chickens,

a silly goat,

and a friendly donkey.

We filled our baskets....

and, it really doesn't get any fresher than this.

We're happily enjoying our first share!

*broccoli
*asparagus
*radishes
*green onions
*cilantro
*arugula
*spring mix
*kale
*romaine
*1/2 dozen farm eggs
(1 of them green!)
*homemade kim chi
(didn't make it into the picture
and was very delicious)

Thank you Madison Creek Farm!
